The draft Healthy Activities for People with Dementia, sponsored by the Association of Relatives of Patients with Alzheimer and other dementias of Molina de Segura (AFAD Molina), in collaboration with the city of Molina de Segura and La Caixa Social Work, has been presented at a press conference on Tuesday 23 February, the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Social Welfare, Worship Molina Lopez, President of AFAD, José Antonio López Gómez, and the Director of Business Area of the Caixa in Molina de Segura Jose Ruiz Marín.
The new service, which has received a financial contribution of 19,800 euros by the Obra Social La Caixa, is provided on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 17.00 hours to 20.00 hours during all of 2010.
It is aimed at local people with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, which require a few hours in the evenings, doing recreational activities and encouraged to provide them with welfare.
Attendance at these workshops is free and developed at the Center AFAD of Molina de Segura, Garden Center (on Calle Professor Joaquín Abellán).
The project has extended operating hours of the association, which was first developed in the afternoon, through: cognitive therapy (led by an educator), occupational therapy (with a social educator) and music therapy (directed by a teacher music).
It has also expanded the number of activities provided in the morning (from 09.30 to 13.30 hours), music therapy and occupational therapy.
