Setenil Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain, organized by the Culture Department of the City of Molina de Segura, consolidates definitely one of the most important of its kind.
In this sixth edition has been a record number of participants, which amounts to 74 titles presented, demonstrating the great acceptance by both publishers and authors from around the country (until now the average participation was about 50 degrees).
Among the authors who are eligible for the award VI Setenil are some as well known as Ignacio Martinez de Pison, Juan Bonilla, Juan Jose Millas, Jose Maria Merino, Espido Freire, Vicente Molina Foix, José Luis Borau, Albert Sánchez Piñol and Miguel Ángel Muñoz .
The award is endowed with 12,000 euros for the winning author as well as advertising failure in major national newspapers.
The first edition was awarded to Alberto Méndez for his book The Blind Sunflowers, in the second to Juan Pedro Aparicio and white life in the third to Cristina Fernández Cubas Kinship poor devil, in the fourth to Sergi Pamies by Si you eat a lemon without making faces, and the fifth Oscar Esquivias at The Mark of Crete.
Jurors were chaired respectively by Juan Manuel de Prada, Luis Mateo Díez, Luis Alberto de Cuenca, Ana Maria Matute and Jose Maria Merino.
Chairs the jury this year's prestigious Javier Tomeo storyteller and playwright whose work has been translated into several languages.
The jury is expected to issue its ruling in early November.
The award will be presented in Molina de Segura in December 2009.
