The City of Molina de Segura, on the occasion of World Forestry Day or Arbor Day, wants to remind its citizens the importance of enhancing and preserving the forest's natural spaces and green areas as a way of combating climate change.
Be planted over 1,100 trees from carob, cottonwood, tarays and Aleppo pine, the latter donated by the General Directorate of Natural Heritage and Biodiversity of the Conservatoire of Agriculture and Water of the Autonomous Region of Murcia.
Plantings will take place on Monday March 23 in El Soto de la Hijuela, on Thursday, March 26, in the Ecological Park Vicente Blanes, Saturday 28 March, Altorreal, and 25 April in The Alcayna.
It is estimated that over 600 people participate in these activities, to adults, children and youth.
The CO2 retained by trees can contribute to the overall reduction of global warming.
Hence the importance of sensitizing the population about the need to conserve the forests, vegetation and biodiversity in them.
Furthermore, this will prevent land degradation and desertification of land.
Thus, says the Councillor for the Environment, Consuelo Rosauro Meseguer, "it is important to social participation of our citizens in this task, as it constitutes a fundamental element in the process of sustainable development of our city.
I sincerely thank the efforts of civic associations and urban institutions such as La Alcayna and Altorreal in organizing and raising awareness in this special day. "
