The general director of Sports, Antonio Peñalver, today inaugurated the new sports hall that bears his name Molina, next to Cañada Secondary School of the Ages in the same town.
The opening ceremony was also attended by the local mayor, Eduardo Contreras, Councillor for Sports, Jesus Maeso, and Council Member of Municipal Works, Daniel Soltero.
This new infrastructure includes a total built area of 2,247 meters square.
The facilities are divided into a ground floor and two more in height, including a sports court of 44 by 27 meters and seven meters in height, as well as changing rooms, fitness room and other auxiliary facilities, and has had a budget of implementation of 1,133,761,252 euros, of which the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, through the General Directorate of Sports, has contributed 300,000 euros.
The new pavilion, which will be mainly for activities of the institute, may be used also in non-school hours by the citizens of Molina de Segura.
This new infrastructure is included in the Regional Sports Facilities Plan promoted by the regional government.
The center's name pays homage to the athlete who best represented the region of Murcia in the Olympics.
He has participated in three (Seoul 88, Barcelona 92 and Atlanta 96), and in Barcelona 92 got the silver medal in the decathlon.
