Health Councillor of the City of Molina de Segura, Lola Vicente Quiles, held a meeting last Friday, June 27, with the village headman of the town to inform them about the measures to be taken before the plague of cochineal carmine in Paleros according to recommendations provided by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in the Region of Murcia and the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.
It has been found in Murcia, and for the first time in Spain, a strong attack at Palermo in a cottony cushion scale, known as wild cochineal carmine or cochineal, which feeds exclusively on cactus, mainly saithe or prickly pears.
The attacks are massive and eventually kill the drainer.
To date, cochineal has been located in an area that affects the municipalities of Murcia, Molina de Segura and booklets, but is in rapid expansion and has come to Cartagena.
Those who suffer discomfort or locate new sites with drainers attacked by Carmine cochineal can contact the Ministry of Agriculture and Water in the Region of Murcia, through telephone numbers 968 39 59 63 84 57 968 11.
At the same meeting, Councillor of Health informed the village headman on the actions undertaken by his department to combat the plagues of mosquitoes and cockroaches in the municipality.
