Arthur Kipps, middle-aged lawyer, rent a theater and hire the services of a professional actor for help to recreate an unreal, spooky event that happened years ago with tragic results for him and his family, with the intention of being released him forever.
From a rickety stage full of furniture, paper and other objects, Kipps begins to read his story.
At first it does so hesitant and painful ... but slowly, advised by actor and with the help of theatrical effects, it is growing in confidence as we watch is assuming different roles and work passes narration to theatrical performance.
