The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras Linares, attends Wednesday March 11, in Valencia, a National Conference on the Covenant of Mayors and Mayors for Adaptation latter initiative launched by the Directorate General for Climate Action of the European Commission in March 2014 and the City of Molina de Segura last October joined with 52 other municipalities throughout Europe.
Mayors for Adaptation complements the already known Covenant of Mayors, which the City of Molina de Segura joined in 2011, and that meant committing to reduce energy consumption by 20%, increase the use of renewable energy to 20% and reduce emissions of greenhouse gases also in the same proportion, 2020.
This initiative aims to take measures to adapt the cities and educate their citizens and know so they can reduce the inevitable effects that climate change brings.
The signatories undertake to contribute to the general objective of the adaptation strategy of the EU through the development of a Local Strategy or integrating climate change adaptation into existing municipal plans.
Eduardo Contreras believes that "the fulfillment of the commitments contained in the Mayors Adaptation initiative, which seeks to mitigate the effects of climate change, is undertaking certain investments that must be authorized local councils and local government currently can only access credit rarely.
