Would cover 80 percent of this vital project for the town, as an alternative to the budgetary constraints of the Consistory
The Municipal Group UPyD in the city of Molina de Segura recorded in a motion yesterday urging the Autonomous Community, or alternatively the government of the nation, to include among the projects to be financed in the period 2014-2020 with European funds "ERDF" plan to prevent flooding in Molina de Segura.
According UPyD, in the Region of Murcia has been progress in recent years on projects that allow better management of water resources, a good example being collectors Lorca and Torre Pacheco, budgeted for 2014, or works in the sewage Santiago de la Ribera, involving, among them, an investment of about 4.5 billion euros.
However, investment in the Autonomous Region in the town of Molina addition to having fallen by half in just four years, are placing far below the regional average.
Torrential rains have caused extensive damage in Molina de Segura in recent years, requiring that the flood prevention project is addressed once;
a project that can hardly be financed with municipal funds on their own level and budgetary constraints of the City, imposed by the Law of Budgetary Stability and Financial Sustainability, which leaves little room for investment, and less of this magnitude.
For the council of political education, Rafael Ortega, "there are alternatives that would enable the project to develop an acceptable margin of time and at a reduced cost to city coffers."
In particular, the ERDF and Cohesion funds will invest in Murcia over 1,200 million euros in 2014, with a European co-financing for projects of up to 80%.
According to Ortega, "environmental management and risk prevention and management of water resources are elements of highest priority for the European institutions and related infrastructures they are themselves investment priorities for the various European programs."
"It is time to get that financing for this much needed work in the town of Molina," he said.
