The reception to Saharawi children participating in the Holiday in Peace program, promoted by the Sonrisa Saharaui Association of the Region of Murcia, took place today Thursday, July 6, in the Plenary Hall of Molina de Segura Town Hall.
The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, the Councilor for Cooperation and Solidarity, Pedro Jesús Martínez Baños, the representative of the Saharawi Delegation in the Region of Murcia, Brahim Brahim Ali, the President of the Sonrisa Saharaui Association Murcia, Juan José López García, as well as other members of the Municipal Corporation.
A total of 91 boys and girls aged between 10 and 13 arrived from the refugee camps in southern Algeria on the last weekend in June.
The children will stay with their host families until the end of August.
In Molina de Segura three girls are welcomed.
The Holiday in Peace program seeks to welcome Sahara minor children in summer to avoid the high temperatures of the Sahara, to offer them a complete sanitary review, a balanced diet and to make live to host families a unique emotional experience.
These are children who are awake and restless, accustomed to playing in the street.
They belong to structured families, with very strong emotional ties and a stable social environment.
However, they are refugees, since much of the Saharawi population has been sheltered in southern Algeria (Sahrawi camps) for more than 40 years.
