On the occasion of the celebration, Thursday September 8, the World Day of physiotherapy, the City of Molina de Segura, through its Department of Public Health and the Hospital de Molina, through its Service Physiotherapy have organized a session of therapeutic exercise aimed at the elderly.
For an hour, the head of the Physiotherapy Service of the hospital, Ana Dasí, has conducted a series of exercises coordination, flexibility, balance and strength in the Polideportivo El Romeral, so that older people remain active .
Following the theme of this World Day, adds life to years, Ana Dasí recommended daily exercise soft and stretching, "to maintain joint range, to prevent falls, to stimulate the circulation, and ultimately, to improve daily life" .
According to WorldConfederationforPhysicalTherapy (WCPT), 32% of the population over 70 years experience at least one fall per year, of which 10-25% cause serious injuries.
Physical therapy through exercise programs for seniors, reduces falls by 32%.
The WCPT indicates that physically active people reduce by 50% the risk of functional limitation and 40% mortality rate.
Physical therapy helps people who have suffered a stroke to reach their full physical potential, reducing costs in the health system.
In addition, physical therapists can improve mobility, reduce dependency and improve the quality of life for those suffering from dementia.
