The government team of the City of Molina de Segura has approved a contest for the creation of a new corporate image.
'Heraldry Popular', as a space dedicated to the dissemination of heraldry, and with respect to the agreements of the City of Molina de Segura, wants to state:
1. We regret the decision taken to create a new image that replaces the municipal shield on some or all of the supports on which it has been used regularly.
2. Logos - despite their generalization in many areas - are the graphic form of trademarks, and people need symbolic references that reinforce their own identity.
Institutions must serve to protect collective interests, so it is appropriate that they use emblems clearly differentiated from those of the business logic of the companies.
3. The use of logos by local entities and the postponement of shields is a harmful tendency that weakens the identity of the peoples.
This tendency is usually justified by false speeches that relate the use of a logo with the transmission of ideas of "modernity" and "dynamism."
Actually, what usually causes the replacement of the shield by the logo is the emotional disconnection between citizens and the symbols in which it must be represented, and the association between the logo and the government team that approves it, which is detrimental of the municipal institution.
4. For all these reasons, we believe that an immediate rectification of the decision adopted would be positive by canceling the contest for the creation of a logo, in order to reaffirm the use of the municipal shield.
