The Molina de Segura Library Network, on the occasion of the commemoration, on Thursday, October 24, International Library Day, has organized a Cultural Week from October 21 to 26 with various activities and workshops.
Since 1997, the International Library Day is commemorated every October 24.
The proposal comes from the Spanish Association of Children and Young People's Book, in memory of the destruction of the Sarajevo Library burned down in 1992 during the Balkan War.
As explained by the Councilor for Culture, Soledad Nortes Navarro, "with this cultural week, we want to publicize the different activities that, throughout the year, citizens can find in our Library Network. It is a way of approaching our users , while paying tribute to all librarians who encourage and encourage reading. "
Each year, a writer and an illustrator are commissioned to write a proclamation and design the poster announcing that day.
This year has corresponded to writer Gemma Pasqual and illustrator Miguel Calatayud.
The work of the Libraries is reflected in this fragment that closes the proclamation of this year: "Long live the libraries, shelter of all, also of the untold, of the unbooked, of the paperless, of the girls who do not they want to be princesses and children who don't want to be heroes. Long live librarians and librarians, guardians of Paradise, time machines and great treasures such as books. October 24, 2019. Library Day. "
