Molina de Segura World Day for Rare Diseases with various activities today, Saturday February 27 (27/02/2010)

The City of Molina de Segura, together with the Foundation for Medical Studies Molina de Segura (FEM), the Official College of Pharmacists of Murcia and La Caixa, has celebrated today Saturday 27 February, the World Day II Rare Diseases, with an extensive program of activities in the College of Education Child Paseo Rosales.

The day began with an information table, to collect signatures to join the Decalogue of the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases (ERDF) on facilities, services, and referral units, children's party and the country of Fantasia, which were attended by a large number of children and families with rare diseases, which have enjoyed several musical performances, inflatables and entertainment monitors.

The following presentation took place at a press conference of the Association for Rare Disorders molinense (AMER), by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras Linares, President of AMER, Daniel Martínez Riquelme, the vice president, Americas, Miriam Gálvez, and Secretary of AMER, Juan Román.

Finally, the conference was held in the Central Role of Biochemistry and Genetics in the Diagnosis of Rare Diseases, provided by Dr. Asunción Fernández Sánchez, Head of Department of Biochemistry and Genetics at the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca.

Subsequently, there has been a roundtable moderated by Health Councillor, Lola Vicente Quiles, which had as speakers to: Director of the Foundation FEDER, Mercedes Pastor, Dr. Asunción Fernández Sánchez, and the American president, Daniel Martínez Riquelme.

The Mayor has expressed his "satisfaction that Molina de Segura for two days has become a national reference in such a sensitive issue for many citizens, such as rare diseases and have had in our city with the highest authorities in this area, such as the prestigious Dr. Joseph Torrent, Chairman of the Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products of the European Medicines Agency, and Mercedes Pastor, Director of the Foundation ERDF. "
