The basics of VI Setenil Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain and the program of activities of the Spring 2009 Book of Molina de Segura, programmed by the culture department of the City of Molina de Segura, were presented at a press conference Friday 17 April by the Mayor of the town, Eduardo Contreras Linares, and the Councillor of Culture, Mariola Martinez Robles.

The VI Setenil Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain, worth 12,000 euros for the winner, is one of the few awards of its kind in Spain, and has among its objectives to promote the literary genre of the story, often undervalued in our country against the novel.

Eligible for the prize collections of short stories published in Spain between April 23, 2008 and April 22, 2009.

Throughout his career, Setenil Award has consolidated its reputation in literary circles and among readers, with the number of books usually presented more than 50, possibly representing much of the crop short stories in the country.

This year's jury is presided by the renowned writer and playwright Javier Tomeo, author of stories such as Tales Stories perverse or minimum, and novels like The Castle of the coded letter or Beloved Monster, which was adapted to the theater and met great success in Paris.

His work has been translated into several languages.

The previous winners were Alberto Mendez, for The Blind Sunflowers, Juan Pedro Aparicio, and white life, Cristina Fernandez Cubas, Kinship poor devil, Sergi Pamies, if you eat a lemon without making faces, and Oscar Esquivias at The Mark of Crete.

The Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura, in order to help reinforce the recognition of the story as a literary genre in our country, announces the VI PRIZE SETENIL 2009, aimed at rewarding the best book of short stories published in Spain in the period referred to the call, according to the following

BASES

I.

May attend the VI PRIZE SETENIL stories in books that the following characteristics:

Books must have been published between the dates of April 23, 2008 (Book Day) and April 22, 2009, The date of the publication that they have completed the process of book production (printing and binding).

It must be collections of stories by a single author, and a Spanish national.

While they may have originally been published in any official language of the Spanish State shall be submitted to this competition in the Spanish language edition.

In the case of works originally written in languages other than Castilian state, date to be considered will be the publication of the translated work.

The decision on what is or is not a "story book" is solely the jury.

May not participate books that are reprints of earlier, or anthologies of short stories already published in book form.

However, collections are allowed when the stories have appeared only in magazines.

II.

May submit books vying for the award as editors directly, as any natural or legal person, enclosing:

Two copies of each of the books presented, once the process become the property of the City of Molina de Segura funds to enrich its network of public libraries.

A statement signed by the sender in which is stated: that the book production process has been completed within the dates specified in paragraph I, and the author is Spanish.

III.

Proposals must be submitted to the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura, Building The Catch, c / Mayor, 81, 30500 Molina de Segura, with the words "Setenil Award."

IV.

The deadline for submission of copies will end on June 30, 2009.

V.

Establishing a single, indivisible prize amounting to 12,000 euros for the winning author.

The prize can not be declared void.

VI.

The prize is also the insertion of advertising in major national newspapers and journals in the Region of Murcia, where stating: "VI Setenil 2009 Award for best book of short stories published in Spain, book title , name of author and publisher, and a reproduction of the cover and the shield of the City of Molina de Segura.

VII.

Finally, as an additional means of promotion, will be released by the city of Molina de Segura an insert containing a sample of the winning-whether one or more stories, or a fragment, "and that will be distributed not for sale between publishers, critics, writers, universities and other institutions related to the book across the country.

VIII.

The decision procedure is as follows:

A screening committee will select a total of 5 to 10 books from all the entries.

The senders of the selected films must submit two additional copies to the organization.

A jury appointed by the Department of Culture, and composed of key figures in the world of letters that have particular relevance to the genre of storytelling, will meet in October 2009 to issue a ruling, which was communicated to the winning author and the publisher.

IX.

The award will be presented at a public event to be held in Molina de Segura in December 2009 with assistance from members of the jury and will be preceded by a meeting with readers.

It will be inexcusable authorial presence that the prize awarded to become effective.

X.

Any subsequent republication of the winning entry will be written reference to read "VI Setenil Award 2009.

Moreover, the Department of Culture has organized around World Book Day, April 23, a wide range of activities that are included under the program SPRING BOOK 2009, and that includes book launches, conferences, encourage reading , mobile library and others.

Book this spring runs from April 17 through May 3.
