Óscar Esquivias, with the play of Crete brand wins the V Setenil Award for Best Book of short stories published in Spain 2008 convened by the city of Molina de Segura (24/10/2008)

The jury of V Award for Best Book Setenil stories published in Spain 2008, meeting the October 23, has agreed to grant the award to Oscar Esquivias for his book The Mark of Crete, published by Ediciones del Viento (La Coruña).

The jury, composed by José María Merino, Ramón Jiménez Madrid, Manuel Cifo and Manuel Moyano, chose this work from among the 52 submitted by publishers in Spain.

Setenil Award, organized by the Culture Department of the City of Molina de Segura, has a budget of 12,000 euros for the winner, and also includes the placement of advertisements with the ruling in major national and regional newspapers as well as editing a reprint with one or more accounts of the winner.

The award-winning writer, Oscar Esquivias, was born in Burgos in 1972.

Bachelor of Arts from the University of Burgos, has collaborated with his poems, articles and stories in magazines and anthologies in Spain and Latin America.

Known primarily as a novelist, has published, among others, the novels holy soil (Premio Ateneo Joven de Sevilla), Xerxes conquers the sea (Young Artist Award of the Community of Madrid), Silver City (a city's literary evocation natal) and Concern in Paradise (Critics Award of Castile and Leon), which opens a trilogy completed with The City of Great King and the night comes.

The winning book, The Mark of Crete, is a selection made by the author of short stories appeared in various publications and literary journals over the last decade.

Inhabited by unique characters in everyday environments, these sixteen stories demonstrate the enormous range of interests and Esquivias records and their ability to suggest in a few pages the inexhaustible richness of life.

It is expected that the ceremony of the IV Setenil Prix takes place on 16 December 2008 in the Plenary Hall of the Ayuntamiento de Molina de Segura, with the assistance of prize-winning author of jurors and from different authorities.

Winners of previous editions of Setenil, an award of increased presence in the national literary scene, have been Alberto Mendez, for The Blind Sunflowers, Juan Pedro Aparicio, and white life, Cristina Fernandez Cubas, Kinship poor devil and Sergi Pamies, if you eat a lemon without making faces.
