The Medical Research Foundation Molina de Segura presents a popular science lecture on diseases of the liver: present and future (19/09/2008)

Medical Research Foundation of Molina de Segura (FEM) presented at a press conference today, Friday September 19, the next conference of scientific (number 32), to be held in Molina de Segura (Center auditorium Las Balsas, District Sacred Heart) on Thursday September 25, 2008, at 20.00, with free entry, under the title of Liver Diseases: Present and Future, by Professor Valtueña Jesus Prieto, Professor of Medicine and Chief Service of Internal Medicine at the University Clinic of Navarra.

The conference is organized by the WEF, the city of Molina de Segura and the Hospital de Molina, sponsored by the Caixa.

The presentation was made by Francisco Guirado Sánchez, Director of the Hospital de Molina, Director of the CEO, Maria Trinidad Herrero Ezquerro, Professor of Human Anatomy and Clinical and Experimental Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University of Murcia and Member of the FEM and Josefina García Lozano, Secretary of the EMF.

Prof. Jesús Prieto (Oviedo, 1944) is also Director of the Division of Hepatology and Gene Therapy Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA), University of Navarra.

Throughout his professional life, has combined the care of patients to medical research focused on the study of the mechanisms responsible for liver disease and development of new treatments for these processes, especially for viral hepatitis , cirrhosis and liver cancer.

He has made innovative contributions such as the introduction of hepatoprotective substances, such as IGF / I or cardiotrophin in the treatment of acute and chronic liver disease.

It has also been a pioneer in the application of gene therapy for the treatment of malignant tumors of the liver and digestive system.

He has published over 200 research papers in international journals with high impact.

In 2003 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Oporto.

Coinciding with the conference on liver diseases: present and future, the CEO publishes and distributes the number 28 of the magazine femciudadano, with a circulation of 5,000 copies.

The contents of this magazine, a dozen pages, are related to the conference, with articles by various scientists and specialists on the subject of the conference.
