The Department of Environment of the City of Molina de Segura has set up the Environmental Volunteer Program 2008.
This is an initiative created in 2007 in order to offer citizens the opportunity to participate in activities and programs of intervention in the natural environment, which was presented at a press conference today, Thursday 15 May, Councilmember Environment, Consuelo Rosauro Meseguer.
This year the program activities will be aimed at the restoration and conservation of the Segura River as it passes through the town and knowledge of environmental and cultural values that characterize this ecosystem.
Actions to develop the volunteers are part of the program participation and environmental education for the environmental recovery of the River Segura and its environment, which the city of Molina de Segura is doing in your town from the Department of Natural Environment and Environmental Protection Department of Environment.
May carry out activities of research and conservation work and restoration of the River Segura, increase their knowledge about the river's natural values and attitudes known to contribute to their conservation.
In addition, complement the studies and actions have been launched with the aim of improving the conservation status of the River Segura, as the Programme for Conservation and improvement of the Soto de La Hijuela, or study to know the current condition Segura River.
The spread of the program is completed by the edition of 300 posters and brochures and information delivery to citizens' associations and schools.
The total program cost of 6,400 euros.
Training activities and workshops will take place on Fridays from 19.00 to 21.30 hours in the Centro Las Balsas (B º Sacred Heart), and research and restoration, on Saturdays from 09.00 to 13.00 hours on the River Segura.

16 and 17 May.
Come to the River Segura: Introduction to the characteristics of the River Segura and its natural values.
Exploration of the river journey by bicycle.
13 and 14 June.
We investigated the birds of the Rio Segura.
Management guides, binoculars and telescope.
Construction and installation of nesting boxes next to the Segura.
12 and 13 September.
Following the traces of animals Segura.
Fingerprint recognition and traces of the riverside forest animals.
Watching wildlife in the Canyon Almadenes (output bus).
17 and 18 October.
The vegetation of the Segura.
Recognition of the major plants of the Segura.
Environmental recovery and repopulation Soto Los Alamos.
21 and 22 November.
Traditional and recreational uses of the river in Molina de Segura.
Recognition research and ethnographic heritage connected to river.
The program is aimed at individuals or groups who, in a free and non-profit, wish to devote some of their free time to develop future conservation and enhancement of local natural areas and learn more about the nature of Molina de Segura.
The conditions for participation are: people aged 18 or over 16 years, with the permission of parents or guardians.
To participate in the activities of environmental volunteer projects is essential to formalize the registration.
The activities are designed for people who do not have to meet any qualifications or special physical preparation.
Volunteers will have a safe, and the costs of development activities are funded by the Department of Environment in its entirety.
Thus, participation is free.
In addition, volunteers can be incorporated into the activities at any time, for it only should first inform the Department of Environment.
The University of Murcia, through the University Department of Social Outreach and Volunteering, working for a part in spreading the program among university students and recognition to students for free credits for participation in the Program Environmental Volunteer Molina.
In the last year worked on the Environmental Restoration Project Campotéjar Lagoons, which involved 20 volunteers who took various jobs: study and bird watching, collaboration in the observation and monitoring of species banding techniques birds, habitat management techniques for bird conservation (planting, installation of perches, nests, eradication of invasive species, cleaning, studying the vegetation of wetlands ...); and social awareness.
The Councillor for Environment, Consuelo Rosauro, thanked "the participation of volunteers and encourages all citizens to join this program to learn about, become involved in conservation and enjoy this highly important for our municipality."
