Two students earn Murcia European Union Contest for Young Latino (17/05/2008)

Students, Raúl Martínez Lorca IES Cañada de las Eras de Molina de Segura, and Alejandra Moya Campos del IES Infante Juan Manuel de Murcia have won in the modes of translation and mythology, respectively, in the second edition of "Competition for harmony among all regions of Europe (CICERO), organized under the patronage of the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Education, Science and Research and the Association of Teachers of Latin and Greek Murcia (AMUPROLAGO).

CICERO Competition is open to young Latin scholars and seeks to contrast the language and research skills of students in 2 of school learning in Latin II, either in the form of Humanities or Social Sciences.

The contest consists of two tests and this year the first test consisted of translating a passage from the De officiis of Cicero, and the second test students answered a series of questions about the myth of Hercules: Classic version of the myth, literary tradition and heritage of the arts through history.

In this second edition have included three students from IES Infante Juan Manuel de Murcia and one of IES Cañada de las Eras de Molina de Segura, who was the focus chosen for the development of European competition testing CICERO in Spain.

All participants receive a participation certificate and a shirt.

The contest is held in each country and two national prizes are awarded to the winner in the translation and the mythology, which is 175 euros for the purchase of books and school supplies.

Participating schools are eligible for the European prize for "A Ray of Hope."

CICERO The first competition took place in 2007 and was held simultaneously in Paris, Berlin and Malvern (England).

Students learned about their opponents from other countries via videoconference.

This year the call has brought to Spain, Andorra, Italy, France and England and enrolled a total of 187 students from 34 schools in the five participating countries.
