The exhibition of drawings NOTES ON AN INFINITE FIGURE, the artist José María Párraga, organized by the Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts of the Region of Murcia, through their itineraries project geographies of Contemporary Art opens its doors to the public on Tuesday, February 9.

The opening ceremony will take place at 20.00 pm in the Exhibition Hall Garden (Calle Joaquín Abellán, No. 8, of Molina de Segura).

The exhibition, in which 80 drawings ink and pencil on paper are set, will run until April 9, at the following times: Thursday and Friday, from 11.30 to 13.00 hours;

and Tuesday through Saturday from 17.30 to 20.00.

This exhibition of drawings by José María Párraga meets three decades of work (from the sixties to the nineties) a fundamental Murcia plastic artist whose work serves as a link between tradition and modernity, a key figure in the renewal and rupture produced in our region in the mid-sixties of the last century.

As noted in 1967 José García Martínez's work Parraga hides a great deal of tenderness: "The themes always relate to human conflicts The characters are humble and defenseless people.. The poor, the old and children's author also boasts everything that relates to the feminine. his figures may in some cases be tormented but most are but poor men who show us the greatness and misery that characterizes us all. "

This sample may be his constant concern throughout his long career in the human figure: nude, popular scenes, characters that are hidden, monsters, mythological scenes: an altarpiece that accounts for the consistency and continuity of the themes of a artist for which the drawing was a constant exercise and perhaps the core of his work.

The delicacy of the lines of these works and in turn the roundness and accuracy of the stroke allow perfectly appreciate the strength of an artist who, with his work, realized the fragility of human life and tried to save from oblivion some expensive, some scenes, some bodies.

JOSE MARIA PÁRRAGA (Alumbres 1937-1997)

He completed his secondary education at the Alfonso Institute X the Wise of Murcia and began to study Teaching in 1951, combining it with the classes in the School of Arts and Crafts in Murcia, where he trained with teachers like Jose Maria Almela Costa, Luis Garay, Clemente Cantos and Mariano Ballester.

He later lived for a while in Madrid, where he made contact with other artists such as Manolo Valdés.

Travel to Holland and France and there makes contact with the work of the Post-Impressionists, significantly marked his work.

In 1955, Parraga started working as a teacher, leaving profession for lack of vocation.

He made his first solo exhibition in 1956 and a few years later, in 1964, participated in the founding of AUNAR group with painters Manuel Avellaneda and Aurelio Perez Martinez and sculptors Elisa Séiquer, Francisco Toledo Sánchez, José Toledo Sanchez and Jose Hernandez Cano, promoting renewal in Murcia art scene.

Throughout his long career, Parraga used various techniques, such as drawing, pyrography and even illustrations press.

His early works are figurative but shows some deformation or stretching.

From 1959 he began to experiment with collage and employs close to graphic arts techniques and, around 1968, reveals the influence of Picasso and Klee, which led him to make a series of monstrous figures.

In the eighties he suffered an emotional breakdown and works with broken lines but from the nineties, he began a more balanced stage again and regained their characteristic curved, sinuous paths, while incorporating the color.
