Total opposition against electoral rigging aimed PP (08/09/2014)

The Government of Spain and the PP seek to reform the Organic Law on General Elections to impose rules with absolute majority, the mayor for 40 100 in municipal elections.

The Municipal Group PSOE expected the support of all municipal groups filed a Motion to reject this outrageous electoral reform.

Antonio Gomariz, PSOE Municipal spokesman, said that, if carried out this reform has posed as "would result in a measure of involutional character, deterioration of democracy, contempt for citizen participation and a high degree of distortion and democratic handling, unacceptable for any society. "

The Spokesman said that the Socialist PSOE electoral reform advocates to deepen local democracy and improve the neighborhood representation, totally contrary to what the PP wants.

"The results, continues Gomariz, would put us to Municipal Corporations and Municipalities with artificial absolute majorities, a la carte or set up for the occasion, with the approach of the minority vote, socially and democratically degenerate delegitimized."

According Gomariz Antonio, this is a real political scandal, bankruptcy electoral consensus, democracy degenerates, becomes a grave irresponsibility and opens the door to instability and conflict in the electoral law.

And all with the sole intention of maintaining control of the greatest possible number of municipalities to the prospect of the collapse in the vote intention of PP, changing the rules unilaterally and imposing a handling of the current electoral system ..

The Municipal Group expects Contreras PSOE and the PP also reject this contempt for democracy that wants to impose, a few months before the municipal elections, and blatantly perverse oriented to obtain an absolute majority with fewer votes, twisting the law system, the mathematics, abusing the position of power of PP and favoring his own party.

The PP and Rajoy Government remain committed to systematically attack the local autonomy with a local first reform that empty political capacity and powers to local councils and away from citizens and neighbors, dismantling public services that municipalities paid;

and now with this new threat of electoral reform to further their political and electoral interests.

The PSOE Municipal Group urges the Government of Spain to summon all the parliamentary groups and society to address a consensual electoral reform and that is a reflection of pluralism and the context of the Spanish society.
