ICOM established the International Museum Day in 1977 in order to raise public awareness about the role of museums in developing society.

The theme chosen this year, collections create connections, remember that museums are vibrant institutions that create links between visitors, generations and cultures.

As the world moves away from traditional modes of relationship, museums have the task of finding new ways to involve the community, giving their collections more accessible, in order to interest the public.

This theme emphasizes the power that the museum objects, not just telling his story, but also creating a link with the community through the collective memory.

What is sought is to sensitize the public about the role played by museums in developing society, promoting the connection between different types of collections and the public.
