Molina de Segura hosts the celebration of Greenways on Saturday May 5 with an attractive program of activities (02/05/2012)

The Greenways Day is celebrated in Molina de Segura on Saturday May 5, organized by the city of Molina de Segura, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Region of Murcia, and the Consortium of Greenways Region Murcia.

The program of activities has been presented at a press conference on Wednesday May 2, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Attended by the Mayor of Molina de Segura, Eduardo Contreras Linares, the Director General of Tourism, Enrique Benitez Ujaldón, and the Manager of the Consortium of Greenways in the Region of Murcia, Juan Soria Martinez.

Every year during the month of May take place various initiatives to celebrate the National Day of Greenways, different actions have in common that promote the use of the Greenway as a space for sports activities and cultural friendly environment and involving thousands.

In the Northwest Greenway (VVN), the fourteenth edition will be held Saturday May 5, in Molina de Segura, in order to promote this stage, whose works were completed at the end of 2011, and spread the environmental, cultural and recreation of the VVN, consolidating it as a tourist resort and recreation accessible to all audiences.

On this occasion, has organized a trip that leaves from the old train station in Molina de Segura to the tunnel of the Ribera de Molina, to return again to the old station of the town.

The tour will begin at 09.00 pm in the courtyard of the old train station in Molina de Segura (current home of the Red Cross), where participants have to submit the registration form printed, receiving a backpack of supplies .

Besides the tour, there will be a giant painting panel colors to walk, pictures to remember, a free workshop for repairing bicycles and a tourist information point.

To carry out the activities, with the collaboration of:

Workshop on Employment of the Northwest Greenway, which will offer students a guided tour of the Way

ALVERDES, the company responsible for managing the Shelter Network the Way, which will promote the panel painting.

Murcia Bike Association, which will offer a free workshop for repairing bicycles.

To reward the loyalty of the regulars to this day, several gifts were raffled among the participants.

TRAVEL

Part from the old station of Molina de Segura (current home of Red Cross).

The route runs parallel to the old N301, so you can see from the Greenway one of the most dynamic areas from the cultural point of view of Molina de Segura: the square of the Museum of the Enclave of the Wall and Lady de Molina the sculptor Manolo Valdés.

The tour will include provision four of the chimneys of the old canneries Molina de Segura.

Also, from the Greenway, will be the Castle District and, on top of this, the viewpoint of the castle that preserves the remains of the medieval Citadel.

After leaving the town and after a short distance, you reach the hamlet of La Torrealta (where it represents the living Stations of the Cross on Holy Wednesday, unique in the Region of Murcia).

From here, you enter an orchard, with crops of vegetables and fruit, especially peach and apricot trees.

After about 3 km., You get to the station of La Ribera de Molina, whose storage area is converted into a cafe / bar.

3.5 you arrive to save the mountain tunnel that holds the Ribera de Molina, as a lookout in front of the garden.

Just outside of the tunnel, are the remains of the house cave in the plaster walls of the Rambla del Cura.

That ends the tour, and will turn around to return to the station.

In 1993 the Spanish Railways Foundation launches the Greenways Program in order to condition disused railway lines as non-motorized transport infrastructure.

This initiative was achieved two objectives: the preservation of heritage and creating a versatile resource for society, especially appealing to walkers, cyclists and people with disabilities.

The Consortium of Greenways in the Region of Murcia is responsible for managing this infrastructure.

Powered by the Autonomous Community of Murcia through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the municipalities of Albudeite, Alguazas, Bullas, Campos del Rio, Caravaca de la Cruz, Cehegin, Molina de Segura, Murcia Mula and is established in 2003 as a public entity and the associations and voluntary nature of the technical, economic and administrative management of this resource with a vocation for tourism product.

The Northwest Greenway Murcia is a path packed for non-motorized travel the old railway building between Murcia and Caravaca de la Cruz.

The course offers 78 km.
