The Sports Hall Antonio Peñalver de Molina de Segura has a photovoltaic solar power plant installed on its roof (25/02/2011)

The opening of the photovoltaic solar power plant installed on the cover of Sports Hall Antonio Peñalver de Molina de Segura has taken place on Friday 25 February.

The event was attended by the Mayor of the town, Eduardo Contreras Linares, Managing Director of the company Zero Degrees South, Francisco Alcaraz, Councillor of Environment, Industry and openings, Consuelo Rosauro Meseguer, and the Councillor for Sports, Jesus Maeso Monge .

The generating facility using solar energy in the form of network connection, 299 comprises polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules of 200 Wp each, making a total of 59,800 Wp and investor networking of 50 kW nominal power.

The investment amounts to EUR 196,552, by the company Zero Degrees South, which has obtained a state-owned land molinense City Council for 25 years for solar energy exploitation of this plant.

After this period, the facility will become municipal property.

The energy generated in the photovoltaic modules is in the form of current, which becomes current consumption by inverter that transforms the levels and characteristics suitable for use in general distribution.

Installation, using aluminum structures, anchored to the roof structure of the flag, get with the least possible added burden, the optimal orientation and tilt of the PV modules to generate as much energy as possible.

This photovoltaic system can generate an annual production of over 92,000 kWh and avoid the emission into the atmosphere of more than 90 tons of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) if the alternative is the generation by a coal plant, thus demonstrating great environmental benefit.

A graphical way to understand would imagine that the reduction is equivalent to the assumption that 90 people who travel daily drive to work from Molina to Murcia, change the car for the bike.

Another advantage of these facilities is that, when performed close to points of consumption, this consumption are the ones who directly benefit from this clean energy.

This plant not only adds a dual functionality to the surface where it is installed (roof plus support for PV modules), but contributes to reducing the heat load to which they are applied to the roof, indirectly contributing to savings on air conditioning the building.
