The Department of Environment of Molina de Segura Launches Green Schools Program / Agenda 21 for Schools for the 2010/2011 academic year (05/10/2010)

The Department of Environment of the City of Molina de Segura, through the Environmental Education Service (SEA), presented for the 2010/2011 academic year the Green Schools Program, aimed at schools that are part of the path to sustainability municipality and the town will take into account the contributions made by the school community and respond to them.

Several years in development this program, new this year for schools is the development of Agenda 21 for Schools.

It's about working on an action plan to achieve sustainable management of downtown, introducing environmental education in the educational program, all in a participatory manner, involving the whole school community: teachers, learners, parents and maternal and non-teaching staff .

Working with schools to develop the Agenda 21 for Schools was developed in parallel to the process of implementation of Local Agenda 21 (LA21) of Molina de Segura.

With it, the citizens have a tool for understanding social and environmental reality of the municipality, the Region and the rest of the planet and acquire a commitment to participate in concrete actions to contribute to a balanced and respectful of the town.

Therefore, the Agenda 21 for Schools (A21e) is a tool for participation in the educational community in Local Agenda 21.

After three years of implementing the Green Schools program are 10 centers which are involved in this process and are part of the Green Schools Network.

Six of them got their Green School accreditation in 2009.

In June 2010, the celebration of the First Day of Teacher Training A21E/Escuelas Green has been a new impetus to the program and recognizes the motivation and the work done by teachers and schools.

In June of this year's Forum is the Green Schools Network, which brings together the institutions participating in the program and intends to hear the proposals of these as fundamental to the sustainable development of the city.

Among the various topics to be addressed by schools in order to meet its environmental situation, the program offers this course in Molina SCHOOL ROAD Project.

The safe and environmentally friendly way to school as a tool for sustainable mobility.

This project, which is part of the Accessibility Plan and sustainable mobility included in the Plan of Action of the Local Agenda 21 aims to make the city more safe and habitable.

This is to involve the entire school community to support the use of private vehicles in the city with pedestrian routes that allow the components of the educational community, particularly children, travel from their homes to schools with the convenience, independence and security, while among all of contribute to cleaner air and energy savings.

Schools can apply to participate by writing to the Department of Environment, through the General Register of the City of Molina de Segura.

Technical and educational staff of the Environmental Education Service will go to the institutions concerned to expand the program information and advice for its implementation.
