Molina de Segura celebrates on Tuesday, May 1, the first National Family Encounter Support Network on the occasion of World Maternal Mental Health Day (27/04/2018)

10% of women suffer from post-partum depression

The I National Encounter of the Family Support Network, on the occasion of the World Day of Maternal Mental Health, organized by the Department of Public Health of the Molina de Segura Town Council, is held on Tuesday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the lounge of acts of the Infant Education College of Paseo Rosales, in Molina de Segura.

The activity was presented at a press conference today, Thursday, April 26, by the Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez Rodríguez, the psychiatrist and gynecologist Alfonso Gil Sánchez, the psychologist Noelia González Calatayud, the midwife Alejandro Ojeda Pérez and the dietitian and nutritionist child and family Rebeca Pastor Valero.

The Family Encounter Support Network offers the following program:

- 10:00 am: debate table, moderated by Alfonso Gil Sánchez.

The speakers at the debate table are: the Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez, the perinatal psychologist Noelia González, the dietitian nutritionist Rebeca Pastor, the Bachelor of Science in Physical Activity and Sports, Andrés de Santos, and the matron Alejandro Ojeda .

- 12.00 hours: exercise with the family.

- 13.00 hours: healthy appetizer.

The College of Physicians, together with the College of Psychologists and the College of Nutritionists of the Murcia Region, and the Marcé Society for Perinatal Mental Health, collaborate with the Department of Public Health in the celebration of this event, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of seeking an adequate comprehensive treatment for women who have a mental health problem during pregnancy and the first year after childbirth, as well as generating a support network for those women and families who are in difficulties.

Currently, 2 out of 10 women are affected, which would mean about 78 women in 2016 in Molina de Segura, and more than 75 percent are not diagnosed or receive optimal treatment.

Fundamentally, due to the lack of knowledge of the health and associative resources of the environment destined to give a support network to pregnant women or during the two years after childbirth.

Scientific evidence shows that having a good start in life prevents the development of future diseases.

The care and attention to the health of the mother should provide the necessary support for women to expand their resources and personal abilities, better adapt to changes in pregnancy and upbringing, allowing them to connect emotionally with their baby, feed and care for them, improved in this way the health of the current and future society.

However, there are many myths about motherhood about how mothers should eat, move, feel, etc., which, far from providing the care that they and their families need, make it difficult.

Hence the need to break these myths, introducing small changes that help us generate big and healthy differences.
