The City Council of Molina de Segura launches the Desmedicalization Program # Yonomebenzo (02/03/2018)

The Campaign for the rational use of Benzodiazepines, the #Yonomebenzo Demedicalization Program, was presented today, Friday, March 2, in the Plenary Hall of the Molina de Segura Town Hall, by the Councilor for Public Health, Esther Sánchez Rodríguez, the General Director of Planning, Research, Pharmacy and Citizen Services, María Teresa Martínez Ros, the President of the Official Association of Pharmacists of the Region of Murcia, Isabel Tovar Zapata, Dr. Juan Francisco Menárguez, family doctor and coordinator of the Jesús Marín Health Center de Molina de Segura, and the community pharmacist of Molina de Segura, Pedro Gil Espallardo.

Benzodiazepines are a type of medication called tranquilizers, are indicated for the treatment of anxiety, insomnia and stress.

In today's society there is a tendency to medicalize situations of daily life.

According to data from the Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products, in the last decade the consumption of benzodiazepines (BZD) experienced an increase of 46.8%.

A study conducted in the municipality of Molina de Segura showed a consumption of BZD in 17% of the population, with inadequate use in 80% of cases, with women and the elderly population being the largest consumers.

In this context, a group of health professionals from Molina de Segura proposed to the Municipal Health Council to create a multidisciplinary working group formed by professionals from different health and municipal institutions (family doctors, pharmacists, psychiatrists, psychologists, municipal technicians, and members of associations and citizens.) to design and initiate a global and community strategy, prioritizing interventions on elderly patients and women.

This community strategy has as its main objective the promotion of the rational use of (BZD) / hypnotics in people who use them for the problems of daily life, through the empowerment of individuals and the optimization of the prescription.

The #YONOMEBENZO program was structured in two phases: a first phase of information / social awareness;

and a second phase of intervention on professionals and the population of Molina de Segura.

In the first phase, already completed, different activities have been carried out: media (press and radio), conferences in civic associations, creation of the blogel (bad) use and abuse of benzodiazepines: Yonomebenzo, Sessions (skills for life ) in women's associations, training professionals.

In the second phase, currently underway, various interventions are being carried out with the collaboration of the Molina de Segura City Council, the Ministry of Health through the General Directorate of Planning, Research, Pharmacy and Citizen Services and the Official College of Pharmacists. of the Region of Murcia, such as the Assets in Health Mapping, group workshops for women, sleep school for elderly people, etc.

Today the pharmacists from the Pharmacy Office of Molina de Segura are presented with the #YONOMEBENZO program, inviting them to collaborate and participate in it, as community pharmacists are health professionals close to patients.

Molina de Segura pharmacists will provide advice and advice to patients on an adequate use of benzodiazepines, as well as indicate or refer patients to their doctor, following a protocol established before a health problem related to anxiety, stress and insomnia.
