The University of Murcia (UMU), through the Faculty of Sports Sciences, and the municipality of Molina de Segura will collaborate in the fight against childhood obesity, as stated in the agreement that was signed this Friday in the building of Convalecencia, headquarters of the Rectorate.
The agreement aims to develop the program "Health 5-10: healthy children, happy adults", which began its journey in 2013 and is aimed at children of these ages with obesity problems.
Within the program, a sports intervention is carried out on children with obesity and overweight, designed and developed by the UMU professor María del Pilar Sainz de Baranda, with the collaboration of other teachers and researchers of the same.
During the ceremony, the mayor of Molina, Esther Clavero, stressed the importance of this teaching institution to collaborate in the program, which has said it has a great success since its inception. In addition, he said that the consistory that presides will continue lending its support to it and even that will empower it.
UMU professor emeritus Salvador Zamora has highlighted the health problems of obesity and the need to combat it.
Likewise, the dean of the aforementioned faculty, Arturo Díaz, and the rector, José Orihuela, who have highlighted the importance that the UMU grants to physical activity as one of the possible means to fight against obesity, have intervened.
