The Molina de Segura City Council takes stock of the Volunteer Project FOR AND FOR OLDER on the International Day of Human Solidarity (20/12/2017)

On the International Day of Human Solidarity, the City of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Social Welfare, takes stock of the implementation, last June, of the Volunteer Project FOR AND FOR OLDER.

This initiative is aimed at people over 60 years of age in the municipality, from a double perspective: those who want to collaborate in the different programs and projects, developed in a continuous, altruistic and free way;

and those elderly who require a volunteer to meet their demands and needs.

The objective of this project is to ensure that the elderly group puts their life project in the foreground, connecting with their environment through social support volunteering for elderly people who live alone and need support and / or attention in resource management, as well as as in projects of insertion and social participation.

Since its launch in June, the most significant thing is that, with its limited travel, the project already has:

A bag of 22 volunteers, of which seven are carrying out the following voluntary actions:

Accompaniment, leisure and free time.

Support in therapeutic activities at home, supervised by specialists.

Accompaniment to minors at the request of the Family and Coexistence Program.

10 demands, direct ones through users and / or relatives of the same, and others through the Social Services programs themselves.

"Participation in volunteer work makes seniors feel useful and integrated into the environment, preventing risks of social marginalization and physiological deterioration," says the Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro García.

"Being connected to institutions, social services, etc., participating in volunteer activities, to the extent of their own possibilities, is a guarantee of mental health, it is a way of feeling alive, and of verifying that for others we have a value and a meaning, as well as a way of approaching reality and relativizing our difficulties in contact with those of others.In addition, the group of older people has extensive knowledge and experiences that can make their participation as volunteers very useful ".

The Volunteer Project FOR AND FOR OLDER is about:

Encourage and give continuity to an MOTOR group of older volunteers.
