The Municipality of Molina de Segura continues its commitment to sustainability by improving day by day the data of the selective collection of waste.

Thanks to the collaboration of the public, in 2016, 950 tons of light containers were recycled in the yellow container, 13.7 kg.

per inhabitant and year, which puts it well above the regional average (10 kg./hab./year), also exceeding the national average of 13.2 kg./hab./year.

These figures represent an increase of 5.4% compared to 2015, an increase that is also above the national average of 4%.

As for 2017, the forecast, according to the available data, is an increase.

As for paper and paperboard, the increase has been somewhat lower, although with 12.40 kg./hab./year, it is above the regional average of 10.37 kg./hab./year.

According to the Councilor for the Environment, Juan Alcaide Quirós, "in order to consolidate and improve these results, it is fundamental to continue developing awareness campaigns that show citizens the benefits of recycling for the environment and make us reflect on the importance which have small gestures such as selective separation to prevent environmental problems locally and globally.

For this reason, the City of Molina de Segura launches a new project to involve workers and users of public buildings in the selective separation of waste generated in these dependencies.

Ecoembes has delivered to the Municipality of Molinense paper mills for the selective collection of light and carton packaging that will help facilitate this collaboration in the separation of the waste generated in the workplace or in the actions or activities carried out in public buildings.

Awareness days will be held for the administration and environmental education activities for users of public buildings and citizen associations that make use of these centers.

This campaign is being developed in collaboration with Ecoembes, the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, through the General Directorate of Quality and Environmental Assessment.

In all of the planned actions, the Department of Environment joins the RESPIRA campaign, which promotes Ecoembes, the Region of Murcia and the Federation of Municipalities to protect the quality of air through recycling.

With various advertising pieces, such as mupis, leaflets, posters, radio wedges and other elements of support to activities, it is shown how separation of waste becomes a fundamental action that contributes to keeping the air as clean as possible and avoiding atmospheric pollution.

Following the good results of selective waste collection, the Councilor for the Environment, thanked "the citizens of Molina de Segura for their involvement" and encouraged "the workers of the administration, users of public buildings and the citizen associations to participate in the activities of this campaign, so as to continue along the path undertaken of commitment to the environment of our city and to the planet through its participation in the reduction and recycling of our waste.
