Molina de Segura City Council awards the VII Doctor Francisco Guirado 2017 Prize to Cáritas and doctor Mario Soler Torroja (29/03/2017)

The jury of the VII Doctor Francisco Guirado 2017 Prize, convened by the City Council of Molina de Segura, has agreed to award the prize to doctor Mario Soler Torroja, in the individual category, and to Cáritas de Molina de Segura, in the collective category.

The award will be presented by the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, during the event to be held on Thursday 30 March, at 12:30 pm, in the tent of the Forum of Health, in the Plaza de España.

Born in Barcelona, ​​Mario Soler Torroja graduated in Medicine from the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1982 and completed his training in 1988 as a specialist in Family and Community Medicine at the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca in Murcia.

Along the way, he worked in a rural office in a town in Madrid, making contact with a way of practicing medicine centered on people, something that he has continued to carry in his professional DNA over the years in which he has been practicing medicine. medicine.

In 1989 he approved the Primary Care competitions in the extinct Insalud, acceding to a place in the Health Center of the Barrio del Pilar in Madrid.

During 5 years he approached the management to work as public health technician in the direction of Primary Care of Area 9 of Madrid.

From 1991 to 1996 he was vice president of the Spanish Society of Family and Community Medicine.

In 1997 he promoted the creation of the National Program of Community Activities of this society, coordinating it until 2008.

In 1996 and during some months began his professional relationship with Molina de Segura, being incorporated in afternoon shift to the CS Antonio Garci'a.

Between 1997 and 2006 he was a doctor of the La Viña Health Center in Lorca, a team he coordinated for a season.

During these years she was autonomic secretary of the Platform 10 minutes, defender of the quality and dignity of the Primary Care, whose final objective was a better attention to the people.

Citizen of Molina since 1995, he was definitively incorporated as a doctor of the Jesús Marín Health Center in 2006. Throughout these years his commitment to the Community has been reflected in many activities.

Their spirit of solidarity was reflected in their great struggle in defense of immigrants, officially standing against the decree to exclude the care of these people.

Impulse of the Community Care Group of Molina, has been its coordinator and promoter since its creation.

The activity of this multiprofessional and citizen group has been reflected in multiple activities that have made the municipality of Molina de Segura an example of community involvement in health.

From 2017 and in a new demonstration of its capacity of commitment with a Public Health assumed the responsibility of the presidency of the Federation of Associations for the Defense of the Public Health of Murcia.

His extraordinary dedication to his municipality, far beyond mere obligation, has made the jury consider this award.

For its part, CÁRITAS INTERPARROQUIAL MOLINA DE SEGURA does an efficient work, which has been developing for more than 50 years, date on which replaced the Brotherhood of St. Vincent de Paul.

Since then he has been constantly helping the most needy, turning especially to children who are undoubtedly the most unprotected.

Caritas began in the parish house of the Church Square of Our Lady of the Assumption.

Later it was located in the Street of the Culture, zone of the District of the Castle.

Currently, its headquarters are located at Calle Oriente, No. 7, where reception, reception, locker room, delivery of baby food and offices are made.

The distribution of food for adults is done on Angel Street.

However, these premises have become small and obsolete.

Therefore, the transfer to other dependencies that are more functional and close to the aid applicants is being studied.

Caritas's work is made possible by the delivery of more than 80 volunteers, persons attached to the four parishes of Molina de Segura: Our Lady of the Assumption, the Heart of Jesus, St. Vincent Martyr and the Holy Family.

During the year 2016 they have received food and other aid for rent, electricity, etc .: 1,650 adults (non-perishable food, milk, fresh food, etc.);

546 families;

And 111 babies (diapers, baby food, toiletries, etc.).

52% of the families are of Spanish nationality.

And the remaining 48% corresponds to foreigners of different nationalities.

The Church receives numerous grants, notably the contribution of the Molina de Segura City Council, the European Food Bank, the Christian Community of Caritas Goods, private donations, etc.

The schools are also involved especially in the Christmas Campaign.

The large commercial areas also collaborate in an important way on the occasion of the 2 days of the great collection of the month of November.

Throughout the year, daily, food is collected from several supermarkets;

Sporadically several local companies collaborate with their contributions.
