The activities of the Environmental Volunteering Program, promoted by the Department of Environment of the City of Molina de Segura, began on Saturday 25 February, with the participation of a dozen people, mostly young students, in the natural space Protected ZEPA of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar-Salar Gordo.
The program, whose motto is Voluntari @ s naturally !, was presented by the Councilor for the Environment, Purificación Carbonell Capel, on Thursday, February 23 at an event organized at the El Jardin Center.
In this first activity, dedicated to the improvement of the habitat of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar, volunteers and volunteers collaborated in the elimination of invasive and exotic vegetation existing in the interior paths of Las Lagunas, areas classified as sensitive and refuge and nesting Waterfowl.
The day began by revealing the origin and importance of the Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA) of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar-Salar Gordo.
Then the birds that inhabit this wetland and the vegetation characteristic of wetlands and salt marshes were observed, as well as the invasive vegetation on which they had to act.
Subsequently, an important work was done to eliminate this vegetation.
The main activities of the programmed activities are to promote citizen participation in the conservation of the natural spaces of the municipality, mainly the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, the Segura River and the Las Lagunas wetlands of Campotéjar-Salar Gordo.
"We thank the volunteers and volunteers for the work done, the interest and dedication they showed in this first day and we encourage them to continue collaborating and spreading the value of the space they have helped to conserve," said the Councilor for the Environment, "To all those interested in the conservation of our natural spaces to join the Environmental Volunteer Program."
Activities are held on the last Saturday of each month and you must register beforehand.
The next activity will take place on Saturday, March 25, and, to celebrate Tree Day, a plantation will be held in Soto de la Hijuela, next to the Segura River.
