The 1st Volunteer Days FOR AND FOR OLDER PEOPLE in Molina de Segura are held on 22 and 23 February (20/02/2017)

The City Council of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Social Welfare, organized the First Volunteer Days FOR AND FOR SENIORS, which are held on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 February, in the Virginia Martínez Fernández Auditorium, in the MUDEM .

The conference was presented at a press conference today Monday, February 20, by the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro Garcia.

The initiative is addressed to all groups of older people in the municipality, associations of the same, and the entire population.

"In a society that is experiencing a progressive aging, we find an important group of people who are socially displaced and have a large amount of free time to occupy. Moreover, these elderly people have extensive knowledge and experience, which Can make their participation very useful as volunteers, "explains Mayoress Esther Clavero.

"We can not forget that several studies seem to show that the adequate use of leisure for the elderly influences more the perception of satisfaction in life than other factors (health, income, education, previous work, etc.). Strong relationship between volunteering and life satisfaction. This relationship is maintained even considering factors such as age, health perception, and socioeconomic level, "says Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro, adding that" the message to attract volunteers Of older people should convey the idea of the organization as a framework in which the experience of older people is recognized and valued. It would be an appeal to the usefulness, to the potentialities, that is, to the knowledge and experience of the elderly " .

In order for the promotion of volunteering among the elderly to be effective, special care must be taken in all matters concerning their integration and motivation, training, etc.

"For this reason, we believe that these days can be the germ of a voluntary project of older people, for and for them, within the Council of Social Welfare," says Angel Navarro.
