Molina de Segura launches a specific plan to prevent overweight and obesity in school (14/10/2016)

Molina de Segura is one of the four municipalities in the region to launch the 'Active-Families' program that the Ministry of Health complements the "Comprehensive Plan Child Overweight and Obesity", designed by the Association of Pediatrics Extrahospitalaria and Primary Care in the Region of Murcia (APERMap).

This program focused on performing physical activity sessions controlled, was presented Friday by the Minister of Health, Encarna Guillen, at a ceremony held in the city of Murcia which was attended by the First Deputy Mayor of Molina de Segura, Fernando Hurtado Miñana.

Seven health centers in the municipalities of Molina de Segura, Sewer, Las Torres de Cotillas and Yecla start this activity, with the participation also eight groups of physical exercise, two per municipality, and 26 pediatricians and 14 nurses pediatrics.

This initiative seeks to provide better coverage to children sedentary overweight or obese who are referred by their nurses or primary care pediatricians program 'Active Families'.

The aim is to prevent chronic problems and sedentary behaviors in adults of the future, and to promote healthy lifestyles and healthy life.

The 'Active Families' is a variant of Active program, which began in 2010. This improvement is to continue meeting the needs of those students who are studying in primary education, aged between 6 and 12 years sedentary habits and showing signs of overweight or obese.

The participating schools are selected by pediatricians and nurses in primary care and perform the activity for a period of eight months to coincide with the school year, that is, from October to May.

They should go accompanied by their parents and / or mothers, since their presence is essential to act as an engine of motivation and change their lifestyles.

The main objective is to intervene on the living habits of children less active overweight and obesity to prevent future illnesses derived from their sedentary lifestyle and obesity, but always assuming that bad habits are acquired primarily in the family and so would not have acting effect on the child or the child without seeking to modify behavior in the family.
