Molina de Segura pays tribute to local victims of the Nazi genocide of Mauthausen, on the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp (19/05/2016)

The act of homage to the molinenses victims of the Nazi genocide of Mauthausen TODAY takes place Thursday, May 19, at 20.00 pm in the Plaza de Europa, on the occasion of the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the concentration camp, and in compliance majority agreement of the regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the City of Molina de Segura of 30 March 2015.

During the ceremony, a plaque will be discovered, and in the same part Carlos Miguel Hernandez, journalist and author of Last Spaniards of Mauthausen, and nephew of the sole survivor of the three molinenses who were in Mauthausen, Antonio Hernandez Marin.

The other two molinenses who were deported to the concentration camp are Pujante Jose Hernandez and Angel Ortiz Perez, who died in Mauthausen.

In total, 233 murcianos died there.

In this May 71 anniversary of the liberation of Mauthausen, known as "the field of Spanish" is commemorated.

Antonio Hernandez Marin, after four and a half years between the fences of Mauthausen, made it alive until the May 5, 1945, when the prisoners were liberated by US troops.

To honor his memory, the City of Molina de Segura has organized the tribute, which will include the unveiling of a commemorative plaque that will read: The People of Molina de Segura in remembrance and tribute to Jose Hernandez Pujante and Angel Ortiz Perez , molinenses killed in Mauthausen;

9,328 deportees, 5,519 dead or missing

The Spaniards who were held in Nazi concentration camps (of which there is documentary evidence) amounted to 9,328, of which 5,519 died or disappeared and only 3,809 survived.

Most of these deportees, 7,532 men, women and children, were held in the Mauthausen camp, where 4,816 died.

Dachau, Buchenwald and Ravensbruk also received a large number of deportees.

The current data suggest that at least 378 murcianos were deported to Nazi concentration camps;

two out of three perished among those fences.

Three molinenses eventually deported in Mauthausen and only one of them got out of there alive.

Jose Hernandez Pujante born on April 26, 1904, Angel Ortiz Perez on May 1, 1908 and Antonio Hernández Marín on 24 August 1907. The three molinenses fought in the Civil War in Spain to defend the Republic against the coup led by General Franco.

After Franco's victory, the three crossed the border into France, where he ended up enlisting in the army of that country to fight Hitler's troops.

Captured by German soldiers, the three went through several POW camps before being sent to Mauthausen in January 1941. Joseph was the first to die in December of that year;

Angel managed to resist a few months, but ended up being the victim of the SS in November 1942. Antonio Hernandez Marin was about to perish on several occasions but managed to stay alive until the liberation;

however, she suffered physical and psychological scars until he died in Paris in 1992.

The molinense deported Antonio Hernandez Marin has become a reference in the world of deportation through his Twitter account @ deportado4443.

The initiative was an idea of ​​his nephew, Carlos Hernandez de Miguel, aimed at disseminating the history of those 9,300 Spanish men and women who passed through the Nazi concentration camps.

Between January and May 2015, the Twitter account @ deportado4443 narrated in the first person and "real time" about life and death in Mauthausen.

Providing hundreds of photographs and real documents, Antonio Hernandez became a spokesman for his colleagues to tell "live" suffering, torture and murders committed in the SS concentration camp.

During the past year, it has continued tweeting @ deportado4443 related to the Spanish deportation and has spread the story of many of his fellow prisoners in Mauthausen news.

It currently has more than 41,000 loyal fans.
