The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Look, attends, Wednesday 4 May, the Working Day Citizen Participation initiatives and instruments to improve the quality of democracy, of the Commission for Citizenship, Governance, Institutional and External Affairs (CIVEX) of the Committee of the Regions, which takes place from 09.30 to 14.30 pm in the Palacio de San Esteban de Murcia.
He is accompanied by the Councillor for Citizen Participation, Pedro Jesús Martínez Baños.
At 1200 hours, the coach of the Department of Citizenship explains the molinense municipal experience, by submitting a paper model of citizen participation in Molina de Segura.
The Autonomous Community of Murcia, through the Directorate General for Citizen Participation, European Union External Action proposed to the Committee of the Regions a study tour to publicize experiments carried out in the region of Murcia in different levels of government in citizen participation.
The City of Molina de Segura part in the meeting to publicize the experience that the municipality is acquiring in this matter through participatory budgeting and other initiatives that are taking place.
During the visit 12 members of the CIVEX commission from different EU countries involved.
The Committee of the Regions (CoR) is an advisory body of the European Union created by the Maastricht Treaty and composed of representatives of local and regional authorities who hold an electoral mandate or are politically accountable to an elected assembly to get the voice and interests of the regions and cities in the European integration process as it is closest to the citizen administrations.
It consists of 350 members from the 28 member countries.
Spain has 21 members on the Committee.
The CoR has always stressed the importance of EU citizens participate in the democratic life of the EU and especially in their country of residence.
Among the powers of the CIVEX are the protection of fundamental rights and the promotion of active citizenship in the EU, which has been promoting at European, national, regional and local levels.
