Safe in maintaining the quality of treated water, as well as discovering the new uses that are made of this element and the waste it transports.

And, of course, its contribution to the conservation of this habitat so important for the conservation of avifauna and that has contributed to the recognition of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar as a wetland of international importance (Ramsar site) and its protection as a ZEPA (Special Protection Area for Birds) within the Natura 2000 Network ".

The water that reaches the homes of Molina de Segura has its origin in the Segura river and after passing through the existing water treatment plant in the municipality in Campotéjar Baja, it is channeled to deposits located throughout the municipality.

To later, through its channeling, reach homes, commercial premises and industries.

Once the water has been used, it must be purified, as it contains organic matter that pollutes the environment and is harmful to health.

For this, it is conducted by the municipal sanitation network to different pumping stations, from which it is sent to the Molina-Norte Treatment Plant, where it undergoes the different phases of the treatment process, a station located in Campotéjar, just bordering on the protected natural area of ??Las Lagunas de Campotéjar.

The uses of wastewater are diverse.

In Molina de Segura, the treated wastewater is received by Las Lagunas de Campotéjar, which act as a water reservoir for irrigation, at the same time that a very interesting and important ecosystem for the fauna has been generated, with the renaturalization of the waters themselves.

lagoons with growth of perilagunar vegetation and the salt marsh area, giving rise to one of the most important wetlands in the Region of Murcia.

In this wetland we find aquatic species of great importance, such as the white-headed duck, gray teal, stilt, red duck, etc.

Likewise, the water from Las Lagunas de Campotéjar is also used to irrigate agricultural holdings near the lagoons.

As for the waste that these waters carry after their urban use, the treatment plant transforms them into different products: production of electricity, heat, fertilizers and phosphorus, the latter used in agriculture.
