The PP of Molina de Segura launches the campaign "You are not alone!" aimed at people over 65 years of age (21/04/2020)

A team of volunteers will contact people over the age of 65 by phone, in order to alleviate the unwanted loneliness that confinement generates. Molina de Segura to April 21, 2020.

The Popular Party of Molina de Segura has launched the campaign "You are not alone!", To try to alleviate loneliness among people over 65 years. The confinement established as a result of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, has led many older people to a situation of almost absolute solitude, since exits from home have been limited to strictly necessary chores, such as buying food or medicine.

Visits have disappeared, and even the services many of them received from caregivers are also not viable at the moment. This campaign aims to reach as many people as possible, mainly to let them know that they are not alone in these difficult times that we are experiencing, as a consequence of home confinement.

For this reason, phone calls are a fundamental resource to enhance human contact among older people.

In short, we are talking about emotional support based on active listening and empathy. "With this initiative we offer ourselves to help those elderly people who live alone, so that they can feel accompanied, at least for a few minutes at the end of the day.

For this we have a team of volunteers, who will have an established script, and in the that it will be strictly forbidden to talk about politics. It should be clear that this is not a campaign of political intentions, but rather a social accompaniment, which will be based mainly on two questions: first, presentation of the caller and brief explanation of the intention of the call, which is to keep him company and second, to establish fixed protocols so that this initiative can be carried out daily, with the main objective of ensuring that the people who need it most do not feel alone. Obviously, these are not medical professionals, psychiatrists or qualified health personnel, but volunteers who will try to get older people who are in the most absolute solitude to find support and feel accompanied. The demand for this service can be made by any family member of the older person, filling in the form that automatically appears when accessing the Populares Molina website (www.popularesmolinadesegura.com). Finally, the president of the popular Molinenses, José Ángel Alfonso, stressed that "it will be a permanent and not a temporary initiative for confinement, since the drama of loneliness of our elders is also permanent." He also stated that "it is vital that as soon as possible all the administrations put in place measures to stop this problem, because, among other things, we owe everything to our elders."
