The City of Molina de Segura launches the nineteenth edition of the Molina Environmental Education Program, Discover your environment (25/02/2020)

The Environmental Education Service of the Department of Environment of the City of Molina de Segura launches the nineteenth edition of the Molina Environmental Education Program, Discover your environment, aimed at the teaching centers of the municipality, with a new proposal for the 2019 course / 2020.

Molina, Discover your surroundings, offers educational centers an offer of activities as a resource for the incorporation of environmental education in the educational center project and in educational programs.

In this new edition, the City of Molina de Segura wants to show its commitment in the fight against climate change, proposing an educational offer that makes known the reality that is being lived both locally and globally and promote attitudes that lead to educational community to get involved in this important challenge.

This educational offer aims to connect the local reality and the management of the urban, natural and rural environment with the great environmental issues, with special emphasis on its relationship with climate change, to provide teachers with an educational resource with which to incorporate environmental education into its didactic programming and in the educational center project.

It is aimed at all levels of Primary and Secondary Education, and aims to be a complete teaching proposal with previous and subsequent activities and recommendations and resources to help teachers complement the activity and give continuity in the classroom.

For this, the Department of Environment has designed a proposal structured in two blocks.

The first, Discover your city, where topics such as pollution, sustainable development, responsible consumption, good environmental practices in relation to water consumption and management, waste generation or energy use, linking all this will be worked on With climate change and the city.

This year, as a novelty and in addition to the program, the development of the Reduce your footprint project is proposed for Secondary, to work on the calculation of the center's carbon footprint, to subsequently propose the adoption of reduction and compensation measures.

The second block, Discover the natural spaces of Molina de Segura, aims to promote knowledge of the most unique natural spaces of the municipality, such as the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park, the protected space ZEPA Las Lagunas de Campotéjar Salar Gordo or the river ecosystem of the Segura river and its sotos, especially the Soto de la Hijuela, to try to discover its biodiversity and reveal its natural and cultural values, focused on its conservation and its contribution to the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

The Councilor for the Environment, Mariano Vicente Albaladejo, highlights "the political commitment of our municipality in the fight against climate change and thanks the educational community for its involvement and collaboration in the environmental improvement of our city, educating in attitudes and responsible behavior towards the environment and against climate change. I encourage you one more year to participate in Molina, Discover your surroundings, hoping that our offer is an adequate resource for the incorporation of environmental education in your center ".

The deadline for requesting activities ends on March 6, 2020 and will be met in order of request to cover the number of activities planned by the Department of Environment.

In the last edition of the program 18 educational centers participated and a total of 3,433 students of the municipality.
