The City of Molina de Segura invests 115,000 euros in the improvement of pedestrian access to the ASTRADE Center from Avenida del Chorrico (11/09/2019)

The opening ceremony of the new pedestrian access to the ASTRADE Center from Avenida del Chorrico, promoted by the City of Molina de Segura, took place on Wednesday, September 11, next to the headquarters of ASTRADE (in Avenida del Chorrico).

The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, and the Councilor for Public Road, Fuensanta Martínez Jiménez, attended the center and the family members of ASTRADE.

The works have had a municipal investment of 115,000 euros, and the following actions have been carried out:

1. Execution of a semaforized pedestrian crossing between the two margins of Avenida del Chorrico, with notice from the urban center of Molina de Segura.

This crossing works at the request of the pedestrians by means of the provision of a button and has a time counter for the crossing of the pedestrians and an acoustic bell for the blind.

A pedestrian crossing has also been executed through a crosswalk marked at the entrance to the ASTRADE Center itself.

2. Execution of a two-meter-wide pedestrian sidewalk on the margin of Avenida del Chorrico adjacent to the ASTRADE Center, which runs from the semaforized pedestrian crossing and the entrance to the Center itself bordering the existing roundabout in the access.

For the execution of this sidewalk, reinforced concrete walls parallel to the Avenida del Chorrico have been made, on whose backs a gravel embankment and an artificial gravel base have been arranged, on which a colored asphalt pavement is arranged, with light cross slope towards the ravine to ensure the drainage of the road.

For the execution of the aforementioned sidewalk it has been necessary to extend the existing transversal drainage work in the access to the center.

The sidewalk is delimited by a railing on the wall and slope that separates it from the ramblizo, and by a protective metal parapet on the border with Avenida del Chorrico.

The lighting of the area has been completed with the provision of a new column and luminaire in the new sidewalk section.

3. In addition, the adaptation of the perimeter path or path to the ASTRADE Center itself, which was deteriorated, and which also constitutes a pedestrian itinerary, has been executed so that people who reside or are treated in said Center can take walks in an environment which preserves natural elements and vegetation, in addition to serving as an access to the drinking water reservoir from which the Mancomunidad de Canales del Taibilla (MCT) supplies the urban center of Molina de Segura.

For this adaptation, the existing road has been cleared and cleared, the application of an artificial gravel base in a width of 4 meters and the execution of a triple surface treatment with gravel, in addition to the protection of the side slopes with concrete in dough.

At the end of 2012, the City of Molina de Segura executed the works to improve access to the ASTRADE Center and Los Juncos Park, through the execution of a roundabout that guarantees the adequate conditions of safety, capacity and functionality in the road connections of both complexes with the Avenida del Chorrico.

However, there was still no possibility of access for pedestrians to the ASTRADE Center in adequate conditions of safety and comfort, since the nearest pedestrian route was the existing pedestrian path on the opposite margin of Avenida del Chorrico, which connects the core urbanization of Molina de Segura with the urbanizations El Chorrico and Altorreal.

On the margin of Avenida del Chorrico that borders the ASTRADE Center there was no practicable pedestrian itinerary.

This pedestrian access should materialize with the urbanization of the ZR1-M2 sector, but, in anticipation that its urban development is estimated in the long term, it has been contemplated the realization of a pedestrian access to said Center from the existing pedestrian path in the opposite margin.

The absence of adequate pedestrian access to the ASTRADE Center limited the possibility that people who reside or are treated in the same could access the urban center of Molina de Segura in adequate security conditions, with walking tours being a necessary activity within the development and treatment of such people.
