The Information and Welcome Center of Visitors of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar Salar Gordo of Molina de Segura celebrates the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network on Sunday, May 19 (16/05/2019)

The Molina de Segura City Council joins the commemoration of the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network on Sunday, May 19, with two activities in the Visitors Information and Welcome Center of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar Salar Gordo, a route and a workshop by these gaps to publicize their protection.

The center opens its doors on the first and third Sunday of each month from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, and offers information on the ecological and landscape values ​​of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar Salar Gordo.

At 10:30 a guided tour will take place to learn about the SPA of Las Lagunas de Campotéjar, where the values ​​that make this space included in the Natura 2000 Network will be known.

After the route, at 12:30 a workshop will be held on puzzles of the Protected Natural Spaces, for all the public, in which they will be able to learn and enjoy through manual work on the protected areas of the Region of Murcia.

Participation is free and it is not necessary to make prior registration, except for groups of more than 10 people.

It is recommended to bring water, hat, sunscreen and comfortable clothes and shoes.

May 21 is the European Day of the Natura 2000 Network, a day where the value of the great European network of protected areas in all the countries of the European Union is made known.

It is the first campaign that takes place in the EU for citizens to know and show their support for this network of protected areas, under the motto The simple fluttering of a butterfly can change the world.

Red Natural 2000 is a European ecological network of biodiversity conservation areas.

It consists of special zones of conservation (ZEC), established in the Directive Habitat, and of zones of special protection for the Birds (ZEPA), designated by the Directive of Birds.

The Lagunas de Campotéjar form a protected wetland at European level with the qualification of ZEPA, as a consequence of the presence in them of aquatic birds in danger of extinction, such as the white-headed malvasia, a duck that is only found in the countries of the Mediterranean.

The purpose of this European Network is to ensure the long-term survival of species and habitat types in Europe, helping to stop the loss of biodiversity.

It is the main instrument for the conservation of nature in the European Union.
