The Molina de Segura City Council commemorates the International Museum Day 2019 with various activities from May 17 to 19 (15/05/2019)

The Department of Culture of the City of Molina de Segura, in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, has organized a program of events to commemorate the International Day of Museums 2019, which will take place from May 17 to 19.

In this year's edition, the motto chosen by the International Council of Museums (http://www.icom-ce.org/dia-internacional-del-museo-2019), the body in charge of the celebration, is Museums as axes cultural: the future of tradition, fundamentally dedicated to influencing the new roles played by museums as active actors in the communities in which they are based.

The museums, while preserving their main missions (collection, conservation, communication, research and exhibition), have been transformed into their practices to get closer to the communities they serve.

Innovative ways are sought to address contemporary social problems and conflicts.

Museums are institutions located at the heart of society and have the power to establish a dialogue between cultures, to build bridges for a peaceful world and to define a sustainable future.

Museums are focal points for their communities and offer a platform to translate the needs and opinions of local communities into a global context.

This year will focus on the new roles they play.

Increasingly they have papal cultural centers, finding new ways to honor their collections, stories and legacies, creating traditions that have new meanings for current and future generations.

An increasingly diverse audience.

It is a challenge also for museum professionals.

We must rethink their own value and the ethical limits that define their work.

In Molina de Segura, the program begins on Friday, May 17 with the following activities in the Museum of the Enclave of the Wall (MUDEM):

Extension of the opening hours, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm

Night at the Museum, from 8:30 to 8:00 the next day.

A group of schoolchildren from CEIP San Miguel will spend a night in the museum with dinner, movies, guided tour, gymkhana, etc.

On Saturday May 18, International Museum Day, the programming is:

Extension of the opening hours, from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm
