The III Traditions Fair of Molina de Segura 2019 is celebrated from April 29 to May 5, dedicated to the Cradle of Vegetable Preservation (30/04/2019)

The 3rd Tradition Fair of Molina de Segura, dedicated to the Cradle of Plant Conservation, and organized by the Council of Crafts of the Molinense City Council, in collaboration with the councils of Social Welfare, Local Holidays and Commerce, as well as with different associations from the locality, the week of April 29 to May 5 is celebrated in the Plaza de España.

The event was presented at a press conference today, Tuesday, April 30, by the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the Councilman of Crafts, Andrés Martínez Cervantes, and the representative of the company Conservas Sandoval, José Miguel Vicente Saldoval.

With the Fair of Traditions, the Molina de Segura City Council, together with the Souk Handicraft Market of Guadalabiad, aims to make public recognition of the customs of the municipality, in a third edition dedicated to the guild of canners, innovators in the world of the vegetable preservation, which was so important in the town, becoming the main base on which Molina de Segura grew and became the city that it is today.

Pioneers, almost artisans, turned into professionals who took the name of Molina de Segura across the five continents, with products of excellent quality, and the hand of thousands of people born in the municipality or arrivals from other places that, with their work, made possible the great transformation of Molina de Segura during the last century, going from a fundamentally rural economy to a spectacular industrial development without equal, the foundation on which it is based today.

The Fair will show live the work of practically extinct trades, such as the esparto, the butcher, the traditional bakery, the bobbin and embroidery, the mill, the farm ... and of course, the production of preserves.

The program planned for the whole week aims to transport us to the peak years of the conserve in Molina de Segura, 60, 70 and 80, and includes music and dance performances, gastronomic samples, garden products and industrial machinery, as well as the Souk Handicraft Market of Guadalabiad, which, as usual every month, arrives with more than 20 stalls, with artisan products from throughout the Region of Murcia, such as sausages and cheeses, honey, jewelery, ceramics, brooches, articles of felt and skin, engravings, soaps, natural cosmetics, toys, etc.

At the Fair, you can also learn about the process of making preserves, from the treatment of vegetables or fruits, to packaging, making sausages, contemplating different photography exhibitions or exhibitions of work of esparto and bobbin or participate in a course and a photography rally, in different games and workshops designed for the whole family, of natural soaps, decorative painting or sewing, kitchen, ceramics, sweets, etc.

An extensive program of activities where it will also be possible to taste some of the best typical products, such as crumbs or sausages, toast with cheese and oil, coffee and pastries and chocolate and donuts, which is expected to be developed according to the following schedule:
