The environmental project Save the World, developed by a group of students of the second year of Primary Education at the Los Olivos Education Center in Molina de Segura, was presented today, Wednesday, March 13, in the Plenary Hall of the Molinense City Council.
The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of the Educational Cooperative of the Los Olivos Educational Center, Concepción Riquelme Ortiz, the Councilor for Education, Fuensanta Martínez Jiménez, and the Councilor for European Projects, Concepción Orenes Hernández .
Save the World is born from the search for motivation in a group of students of the second year of Primary Education.
The question that arose among the teachers was: how can we teach writing to this group of children doing it in a motivating and competent way?
The answer was in the trash bins in the schoolyard: nobody recycles.
The faculty shared the problem with their students, told them what is happening on this planet and told them that the solution is in each one of us.
They believed them and, spontaneously, decided to clean the garbage breaks.
Yes, instead of playing things as children, they played to collect the garbage that others threw, and then throw it in the containers and thus help save the planet.
The action is praiseworthy, but the problem remained the same;
It is not recycled.
Therefore, they decided to get down to work with this project.
The first step was to address by letter to the Mayor of Molina de Segura, asking for containers (6 groups, 6 letters prepared by each group).
Second, they produced a document explaining what is happening on our planet, at their school and how they could change it.
This document will be presented to children throughout the center, from 3 years to the second year of Bachillerato.
In addition, on the day of the exhibition, they will take to each of the classes two bins made by the children: one yellow and one blue.
They are going to invite you to recycle at all times.
When the yard containers have arrived, the school is informed of the problem and willing to collaborate, they will organize everyone so that there is always a patrol of 12 guards who watch over the cleaning and recycling of the waste substances that are generated in the recesses
According to the President of the Teaching Cooperative, Concepción Riquelme, "this project has only just begun and we will take it as high as we are capable of dreaming." The main consequences at the educational level are the increase in motivation, the teaching of a competence mode and make children see that any idea, however crazy it may seem, can be carried out.This has a direct effect on the emotional level, since their self-esteem is being reinforced.In addition, we are showing the adults of the future the way to follow".
On the other hand, the subjects that benefit from the work are: Language, since it is necessary to write correctly, with good calligraphy, order and good expression;
Mathematics, since you have to calculate the number of containers they have and what they need, the classes that are in the school and the bins that are necessary;
Social Sciences, because the contents related to the Environment are integrated;
and English, because they want to tell the world what is happening and what steps must be taken to reverse the problem.
"What better way to do it than through the language of Shakespeare, which is spoken by more than 1,500 million people around the planet, for this, we will carry out a video and we will also take advantage of the power of diffusion of our own language. maternal subtitling in Spanish ", Concepción Riquelme concludes.
