Faculty of Geology of the institutes of the Region of Murcia visits the places of geological interest of the north of Molina de Segura and the fossil exhibition of the High Nature Information Center of the Rellano (13/02/2019)

The environment of the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park and the High Nature Information Center of the Molina de Segura Rellan, managed by the Department of Environment of the Molinense City Council, were part of the visit of 50 teachers of Geology of Education Institutes Secondary and Adult Education Centers, last Saturday, February 9, organized and guided by Francisco Guillén Mondejar, professor and coordinator of the subject of Geology of the University of Murcia for the evaluation of Baccalaureate for University Access and tests of Access for over 25s, from the Vice-Rector for Studies of the University of Murcia.

Some of the places of geological interest visited were Cerro de los Coloraos and Paraje La Poza, where the fossilized coral reef of El Rellano is located, a paleontological site dating back 8 million years ago.

The exhibition La historia de Molina through the fossils, from the Nature Information Center Alto del Rellano, was an obligatory stop on this trip.

This exhibition, unique in the Region of Murcia, explains the geological history of the municipality and is of great didactic interest;

It contains minerals, rocks and fossils from Molina de Segura, as well as models that recreate paleogeology since 230 million years ago.

Its content was carried out by the Molinense geologists Antonio del Ramo Jiménez, Francisco Guillén Mondéjar and Joaquín Gómez Gómez.

In this exhibition we also find a reproduction of the largest meteorite fallen in Spain, which fell in Molina de Segura in 1858.

The Alto del Rellano Nature Information Center opens its doors on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours, to offer information on the environmental, landscape, cultural and touristic resources of the area and to visit the exhibition The history of Molina through fossils.

Every Sunday of opening interesting activities are also carried out to know the environment of the Vicente Blanes Ecological Park and its biodiversity, as well as the rich geological heritage of the town.

Guided tours for groups can be requested.

Also, from the Environmental Education Program for Teaching Centers Molina, discover your environment activities are offered to know this geological heritage and Vicente Blanes Ecological Park.
