The Town Hall of Molina de Segura shows a popular Nativity scene from Murcia made by Antonio Salvador Clares (18/12/2018)

The City of Molina de Segura, through the Department of Crafts, and as a sign of its support to the artisanal sector, staging a popular Murcian nativity scene in the entrance hall to the municipal consistory, which can be visited from Monday 17 from December to the end of the Christmas holidays.

Composed of some 50 pieces made in an artisanal way, endowed with ingenuity and life, the crib has been assembled by the Nativity scene master Antonio Salvador Clares, based in Molina de Segura.

The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, and the Councilman of Crafts, Andrés Martínez Cervantes, visited the nativity scene, yesterday, Monday, December 17, together with its author.

In our Region, the Belenistic tradition has its origins in the Spanish secular practice of adorning with artistic Christmas ensembles churches and palaces and in the roots experienced by this custom in Baroque society, which reaches our days.

Antonio Salvador shows, through a scenography full of details, a popular village street, which could well be in Molina de Segura, full of life and decorated for the celebration of a party, fruit of the author's imagination, which in its interior houses mill, waterfall and fruit stands, etc.

The visiting schedule is:

from Monday to Saturday, from 09:00 to 15:00 and from 5:00 to 9:00.

Sundays and holidays, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

When you contemplate the characters of this nativity scene, of clay imagery of Artesanía Serrano (craftsmen from Murcia, since 1913, located on the Carretera de Alicante), and its surroundings, even knowing that the tradition has Italian origin, it seems impossible that This custom was born in Murcia, because it is part of the idiosyncrasy of Christmas in Murcia.

This Bethlehem complements the offer of the Local Festivities Council, along with those installed in the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption, Bethlehem Municipal Parish Hall and Lux Mundi Belenes Church and Los Postigos Center.

Antonio Salvador Clares is linked to this style so popular in our region since 1999, having been awarded five times by the Belenista Association of the Region of Murcia, which recognized him with the third prize in 1999, 2000 and 2003.
