The act of signing the collaboration agreement between the City of Molina de Segura and the Association of Parents and Protectors of People with Intellectual Disability of Murcia, ASPAPROS, for the development of a program of social integration activities with people with intellectual disabilities has had place today Wednesday May 16, at the headquarters of the association.
The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of ASPAPROS, Mariano Manzanares Torres, the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, and the Director of ASPAPROS, Rafael López Torres have attended.
The agreement contemplates a municipal subsidy of 30,000 euros, and its objectives are the following:
Promote the active participation of people with intellectual disabilities in the proposal, organization and development of socio-cultural activities.
Encourage the development of autonomy and responsibility in the organization of their free time and leisure in those most important aspects of the daily life of people with intellectual disabilities who come to the association.
Offer a space and a normalizing context in the development of certain activities carried out by the entity, locating these activities in municipal dependencies, which enhances and improves the autonomy and social integration of people with intellectual disabilities.
ASPAPROS has a wide range of resources in Molina de Segura (at Calle La Amistad, n ° 1, in Barrio de San Miguel): it has a Day Care Service, where different workshops are held;
and it offers a dining room service, adapted transport and health care, since it has a long history in the care of people with intellectual disabilities.
It also has a residential care resource, 365 days a year, for the comprehensive care of people with intellectual disabilities, who need support due to problems of autonomy in carrying out activities of daily living, and can not stay in their own homes, with capacity for 97 people.
In addition, a family respite service is provided, designed to assist the person with intellectual disability during the days in which, for various reasons, the family can not attend to it.
The recipients of these services are people with intellectual disabilities of the municipality of Molina de Segura, who have accredited the degree of dependence, over 18 years.
200 people have been attended in 2017, of which 126 men and 74 women.
Within the Program of Activities of Social Integration for Persons with Intellectual Disabilities the following actions are established:
Activities in the community.
Leisure and social life.
The following excursions are planned: spas, leisure and commercial centers, and museums, theater and cultural centers.
Cultural outings, to know tourist places at a national and regional level.
Sport activities.
Motricity and physical development: horse riding, swimming, soccer, golf, and participation in the activities programmed by the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (FEDDI).
Activities in the natural environment: Gardening Workshop and Greenhouse.
Activities that improve the autonomy and personal promotion of people with intellectual disabilities located in municipal dependencies.
To do this, it has the supervision of the technical staff of both ASPAPROS and the Department of Social Welfare.
The association has: 4 educators, 2 social workers, 3 workshop teachers, 12 caregivers and 2 social integrators.
The Councilor for Social Welfare, Angel Navarro, said that "the City Council maintains the increase in financial funding to the entity, so that it can offer a wider range of activities to this group and a greater number of users participating in the project. that certain people of the entity can carry out activities in other standardized spaces, in the different municipal departments, which causes greater awareness in the group ".
Finally, he stressed that new activities are generated, such as the implementation of an Urban Ecological Garden, which facilitates people from this group with low income, and the municipality, to participate in the workshops of the day center for free, and the commitment with the entity to take into account the Social and Labor Insertion Exchange of the Molina de Segura City Council, aimed at favoring the integration into the labor market of people in unemployment of the municipality, is maintained.
