The act of signing the collaboration agreement between the City of Molina de Segura and the Association of Relatives of People with Alzheimer's and Other Dementias (AFAD Molina) to care for these patients through the Active Minds project took place today, Wednesday 9 May, in the municipality of Molinense.
The Mayor of the town, Esther Clavero Mira, the President of AFAD, Trinidad Gómez García, and the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángel Navarro García, attended.
The Mayor of Molina de Segura, Esther Clavero Mira, has commented that AFAD, through its project Activate the mind, is doing an immense and diversified work, supporting families, maintaining and stimulating the mental abilities of users and promoting multiple aspects of their daily coexistence.
AFAD, added the municipal councilor, "has been working for many years with Alzheimer's patients and other dementias and deserved that the City Council strengthened its work, especially by the extraordinary work done by the team of professionals that attends annually to a total of 60 people in our municipality. "
The agreement aims at an economic collaboration between the City Council, which makes a contribution of 22,000 euros, and AFAD, which develops actions in the sector of people with Alzheimer's and other dementias in the municipality, in order to:
- Provide support to families to face the impact of having a relative with Alzheimer's disease and offer the resource of "family respite" to caregivers.
- Maintain and stimulate the mental abilities of all users of the association, as well as identity, creativity and communication.
- Support the operation of the Day Center.
- Enhance interpersonal relationships, tolerance and respect through the management of social skills that improve autonomy in daily life activities.
AFAD, whose headquarters are currently located in the Las Balsas Center, is an entity that works with people diagnosed with Alzheimer's and other dementias, and their families, with actions to respond to the needs arising from this disease, seeking cognitive, physical stimulation , social, emotional and family respite.
Through the project We activate the mind, it is intended to maintain and stimulate the mental capacities of the patient and to enhance the skills that improve the autonomy in the development of the activities of daily life.
This is done with the following actions:
Day Center, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., where services and activities are provided:
Workshops of Cognitive Therapies, Plastic, Painting, Crochet, Clay, Stimulation and Music Therapy, among others, from 09.30 to 13.30 hours.
Family Care Service for information and advice on all the problems related to Alzheimer's and its consequences.
Nursing basic care.
Health care, personal hygiene, hydration, food, accompanying the bathroom ...
Canteen and transportation.
AFAD has the following human resources for the provision of its activities: 1 Pedagogue, 3 Monitors / Educators for workshops, 1 Social Worker, 2 Nursing Assistants, 1 Graduate in Nursing, and 1 Administrative.
